UC Santa Cruz is excited to announce the launch of a new professional development course in Coastal Climate Resilience. This comprehensive 8-week virtual course, complemented by a 2.5-day in-person workshop, will begin on September 6, 2024. This initiative is a collaboration between the Center for Coastal Climate Resilience and the Coastal Science and Policy Program at UC Santa Cruz.
The course is designed to provide participants with expertise from top sustainability and resilience professionals. It targets individuals actively working in the field of coastal climate resilience, enabling them to apply their learnings in real-time. Through a multisector network of dedicated instructors, participants will explore practical solutions to coastal resilience projects.
Key highlights of the course include:
- Identifying a range of practical solutions for adapting to climate risks, including nature-based solutions.
- Accessing resources for planning, evaluating, funding, and implementing projects.
- Understanding the landscape of models and tools available for coastal risk assessments and adaptation planning.
- Engaging stakeholders in resilience and adaptation projects equitably.
- Building an interdisciplinary network to collaborate on local and regional resilience projects.
The course emphasizes cohort-based instruction and activities grounded in science, helping practitioners build a robust framework of opportunities, innovations, and practical solutions in coastal climate resilience.
Limited fellowships are available, with a particular interest in supporting tribal members and practitioners and liaisons from underserved communities.
