Makena Rush

Makena Rush is an M.S. Student in the Coastal Science and Policy Program, focusing on exploring the social-ecological dimensions of kelp restoration in California. Partnering with the Kelp Forest Alliance, she aims to elevate Indigenous priorities and voices, to advance these fields from a basis of equity, environmental justice, and mutually-supportive forms of scientific research. Makena is also a passionate artistic activist, who seeks to center alternative forms of science communication and storytelling through visual arts, dance, filmmaking, and more.
