OVERVIEW
The Center for Coastal Climate Resilience announces an opportunity for Graduate Student Fellowships to support research, collaborations and creative works that address coastal climate related impacts and solutions. Up to three quarters of GSR support may be requested. GSR funds will be transferred to the student’s advisor and hiring will be managed within their department and division. Letters of Interest need to specifically address the impact of the proposed work and how it relates to coastal climate resilience. Priority will be given to students working on projects that result in tangible early products that can inform understanding of climate risks and provide solutions and actions.
ELIGIBILITY
All currently enrolled UCSC graduate students are eligible to apply for 1-3 quarters (funding ends no later than December 31, 2025). Funds can support the GSR working on a PI project or a self-directed project.
LETTER OF INTEREST DUE: January 17th, 2025
LOI information will be gathered via google form. Please submit the form by January 17th, 2025. The LOI form requests the proposed project title, the name and contact of the student’s advisor (PI), a letter of support from the advisor, and a budget outline. Questions regarding the LOI can be directed to pamdewey@ucsc.edu.
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
The full application will include the following items:
- Brief Project Description (not to exceed one page). The Project Description should consider a) the Project goals, b) Significance, and c) Potential Impact. Please avoid using discipline-specific jargon.
- Letter of Support from Advisor (not to exceed one page). The Letter of Support should outline the amount of time the advisor has worked with the student, their assessment of the likelihood of the success of the proposed project, and confirmation that the advisor will serve as project advisor.
- Budget. Indicate quarters to be supported. Funding is available to cover GSR salary, tuition and fees at 50% during the academic year and up to 100% of salary in the summer quarter.
- Student’s CV — A Curriculum Vitae (CV) (not to exceed two pages) is required. CVs should include education history; academic and other significant positions held; relevant peer-reviewed publications or creative projects.
REVIEW CRITERIA
The overall goal of the CCCR Graduate Student Funding program is to facilitate UCSC Graduate student work on coastal climate resilience. Applications will be evaluated based on the likelihood that the proposed work plan will result in clear outputs. Preference will be given to projects that address core areas of Climate Adaptation; Nature-based Solutions; Climate Communications & Visualization; and Climate Justice.
