Climate Justice: Community-Engaged Climate Adaptation Solutions
The communities that have contributed the least to climate change are often those that are impacted the most. They also traditionally have limited access to resources for reducing these impacts.
Through ongoing engagement and new initiatives, we work with communities to understand the climate risks they face and help to secure the resources they need to adapt to these changes and reduce their risk. Together, we respect the value of nature as part of the solution to reducing the impacts of climate change.
Center researchers and partners are working to solve these challenges locally, nationally and globally:
- In our backyard, we address the inequities of flood, fire and air pollution across Santa Cruz, Pajaro and the Salinas Valley.
- We work with partners such as Black in Marine Science to understand risk and communicate solutions more broadly.
- We work with Indigenous leaders in California, across the US and in the Caribbean to develop solutions that meet their needs.
